Pretty Ugly Blue

Some people think pretty; some people think ugly. I think pretty ugly. I started to develop the idea of pretty ugly through my blog posts and instagram over a decade ago. It was a mixture of the inane and the insane. Rough with smooth; old with new; brutal with delicate; serious with ridiculous. By chance I discovered cyanotype - a technique dating back to the Victorian era that was a very early form of photography. Cyanotype involves coating paper or fabric with a solution of iron salts which, when exposed to UV light, turn a vivid blue. The areas that are unexposed wash out leaving an image. This process gave me free rein to explore my love of textiles and printing. Thus was born Pretty Ugly Blue - a hub for me to explore and share my love of craft and sewing and anything else that inspires or moves me. I hope you find things here that you will want to own and cherish; things that will inspire and amuse you; things that will touch your soul. Please follow me on my Instagram feed and reach out if you would like to share ideas, collaborate or are considering a commission.
